Good Earth Winery’s New Offerings

With growing number of wine drinkers, India has already started creating impact on wine world. The desi winemaking-fever has stuck winemakers from across the world and has got them in the groove to introduce their wine to this ever-dynamic market. And at this no one wants to stay behind. It’s simple, make wines which are timeless, enjoyable yet simple and this is the thought behind the Good Earth Winery’s (GEW) winemaking philosophy, India’s one of the most exciting wine-house.

It’s not surprising to learn that Nashik’s valleys are the home to the grains from which the nectar of GEW’s wines is made. With India’s biggest wine producing region they launched their first wines in 2008 vintage. The company has a virtual winery, which means that they do not own any facility themselves instead they buy selected grapes and make their wines in a winery outsourced where winemakers  produce the wines with excellence. The company is the result of by Mr. Girish Mhatre dreams to put India forward in wine world. Having worked in various countries across the world and following his passion for wines religiously he returned home to put quality Indian produces on tables across the world. Mr. Rajesh Rasal, PhD. in Oenology, spearheads the winemaking operations and have the amiability of producing commendable wines year after year.

Their Raga collection already impressed us at our Big Fat Indian Tasting. This time it were Blanca, Bleu and Bella up for the ‘taste test’.  These three are released as a new segment with the key focus of pairing them with local as well as international cuisines. The labels chic are no short of giving a roaring competition to any new world wine

Good Earth Winery Blanca Chenin Blanc – White Wine:

Light straw robe with nuances of sweet white fruits like pear, guava, tad perfumed.  Dry mouthfeel with soft palate. It exhibits aromas of guava, apricots, and even touch of acacia flower. Crisp refreshing taste that recalls citrus fruits. Can pair well with medium spicy Indian dishes like Palak Paneer, Aloo Tikki, Paneer/ Fish Tikka, Dum Aloo or even some Szechwan dishes .

Good Earth Winery Bella Shiraz – Rosé Wine

Simple, fruity wine with a jammy nose and notes of cranberries, sweet cherries, rhubarb, and plums. Clean dry palate with fruit-forward flavours, refreshing acidity, and a round mouthfeel. It marries well with light spicy dishes like Chicken Malai Kabab, Hakka Noodles, Chicken Dim Sum, Kathi Rolls, and the likes.

Good Earth Winery Bleu Shiraz – Cabernet Sauvignon – Red Wine

Deep mahogany colour.  Spicy nose with perfumed oak, vanilla, black pepper, sweet spice, and berries. Dry juicy palate with elegant mouthfeel and round finish and long aftertaste. Can be perfect a accompaniment with Biryani, Tandoori, Spicy Chicken + Pepperoni Pizza, and Seekh Kabab.

Wines which are made to suit Indian food these wines are still compatible to the international market. With all the studies and excellence good earth wineries have put up a good show in terms of balance and complex wines. Calling their wines  “New Latitude” wine explaining that Traditionally, vitis vinifera used in wine making has been grown at latitudes between 30 degrees and 50 degrees (both north and south) Nasik is 20 degrees North Hence, the “New Latitude” label.
